Rules for the Game of Roulette and the main difference between European and American versions

The king of casino games i.e. roulette is just one easy game to play in casino or it could be said, one of the easiest. The rules of the game are simple as you bet on numbers or range of numbers or even the colours. If the game is witness through the course of history then there is a difference in the game rules because of its European and American standards.

Prior to rolling the ball, people place bets on what number will come up by laying down chips on a betting mat, the precise location of the chips indicating the bet being made there are certain rules that are applies and these differ according to variations in Roulette games that you play.

'En Prison' Rule

This is a roulette rule that can be applied to even-money bets only. When a zero turns up, the player has two options: Reclaim half the bet and lose the other half.

Leave the bet (en prison = in prison) for the next spin of the roulette wheel for an all or nothing gamble. If the subsequent spin is again zero, or does not match the imprisoned bet, then the whole bet is lost. Otherwise, if the subsequent spin's outcome matches the bet, the player's money is returned.

'La Partage' Rule

The la partage roulette rule is similar to the en prison rule, only in this case the player has no option when a zero turns up and simply loses half the bet.

Maximum and Minimum stakes

Casinos will normally post a maximum and a minimum stake for a roulette table and this is sometimes done for recreational play, too. Typically, for each spin of the wheel, if a player the total amount of a player's inside bets must exceed the minimum stake. The listed maximum stake usually shows only the maximum allowed for a single number "straight up" bet. The maximum stakes for other types of bet increases proportionately e.g. The maximum bet allowed for a pair of numbers is double the maximum straight-up bet, the maximum allowed for a corner bet is 4 times the straight up maximum and so on. So that really the limitation is on the amount that the casino can lose.

The American roulette is based on 38 holes with numbers on them, it ranges from 1-36, then 0 and then 00. If the ball is in 0 or 00 you will loose your bet. It is important to understand that result is purely based on the probability formula, like if you go for 6 then its probability will be 1/38, similarly if you go for the range of numbers probability for getting the desire outcome will increase.

In this game of roulette different chips are usually used in comparison with other table games at casinos. All players, after selecting a roulette table to attend, need to exchange either regular casino chips or cash with the dealer. Every player will receive chips of different color, which is usually done in order to avoid confusion when payouts are made.

When all players have received their chips, they are allowed to begin placing bets. These bets are usually made on the roulette table, where all the different betting options are visualized. Players may put their chips either on a single bet, or on a combination of bets. Next, the dealer will spin the roulette wheel. What is important to note is that bets can be placed, moderated and removed even after the wheel is spun, but not after the dealer cuts off betting by calling out ”no more bets”. After this call from the dealer, players are not allowed to change the bets they made.

Once the ball drops into one of the numbered pockets on the wheel, the dealer identifies and announces the winning number. After that he/she marks the number on the roulette table using a marker. All players, whose bets won, are then paid, while losing bets are swept off the table. While the dealer makes payouts to the winners, bets for the next round of the game can be placed.

Here this must also be understand that casino also know this formula so they design the betting levels, where you can only bet up to certain level of amount on range of number and different on the single digit.

The European roulette can be said the punter friendly wheel, considering the main difference in both European and American roulette is that there are 37 total digits i.e.1-36 and then 0 in European style . In European roulette the probability outcome is same as the American but the risk decrease to one digit i.e. total number is 37 here.

When playing European roulette online one will find out the betting process is relatively easy. The player has to place his/her chips on the desired bet and press the ”Spin” button. Once the betting round is over, he/she needs to choose either to place another bet (”Rebet” button), or to abandon the game (”Clear Bets” button).

At land-based casinos the betting process is as follows. Four members of the casino personnel usually attend the roulette table. Two of them are known as croupiers and their main function is to handle the bets and spin the ball into the roulette wheel. The other two casino employees are known as ”table-end” (”bout de table”) and ”game supervisor” (”chef de partie”), who must make sure the game runs smoothly.

The number of participants around the roulette table usually ranges between 1 and 8. The game of roulette is initiated, once the croupier calls out ”Place your bets” (or ”Faites vos jeux”). Players are now allowed to make the type of bets we are about to mention later in the article. Next, the croupier places the ball for a spin onto the roulette wheel. As soon as the ball has about two more revolutions to go, the croupier calls out ”No more bets” (or ”Rien ne va plus”). From this point on, if any bets are placed, they will usually be disregarded. Once the ball drops into one of the 37 numbered pockets, the croupier identifies and announces the winning number. Bets that lost are surrendered to the house, while all winning bets are paid out.

There are additional optional rules that some casinos and houses play. Both the La Partage and the En Prison roulette rules effectively have the casino edge on even-money bets.

Rapid Roulette is played the same way as traditional Roulette, except that you play at your own individual player terminal and place your bets on a touch screen. Rapid Roulette also offers the excitement of a Mystery Jackpot like when played at Crown Casino. Everyone who plays Rapid Roulette has the chance to win a jackpot payout between $100 and $1000.

  • To ‘Buy In’, insert your money into the note acceptor at any vacant terminal and it will automatically be converted into on-screen chips. You can also give your money to the Dealer.
  • To place a bet, touch the chips on the screen and then either touch the screen where you want to place your bet or drag the chip to another location.
  • To move a chip from an incorrect position, touch the chip and then touch the screen where you want to place your bet or drag the chip to another location.
  • You can place as many chips as you like on any number, section or combination of numbers and sections up to the allowable maximum bet.
  • Bets can be placed in units stated on the table limit sign as long as the total bet adds up to the table minimum bet.
  • A timer on the screen will count down to let you know how long you have before you must finish placing bets.
  • The Dealer spins the ball, and after the ball drops into a number on the wheel announces the winning number.
  • Each terminal is automatically updated, winning results are paid and losing bets taken.
  • When you want to finish playing simply press the ‘Cash Out’ button on the screen and the Dealer will exchange your on-screen chips for cash

Players must know that both the versions of the game have wheel and in both of them “croupier” spin the wheel to one side and throw the ball to other, luck in included in both of them.

The only difference lies in the total number of digits and addition of 00 into American roulette. In Europe if the ball gets to 0, then your stake will be at prison and the wheel will be given another spin, if you win this time you will get back your money. In American version of the game if ball sticks to 0 then the game is lost, with no second chances.
