The Roulette Game

It is one of the famous games of casino and like other games of this battle field it’s also about betting, winning or losing, getting rich or coming on road. In roulette the bets are placed on number or range of numbers, colours i.e. red or black, or it can be on the even or odd numbers.

To determine the winning number and color, a croupier spins a wheel in one direction, then spins a ball in the opposite direction around a tilted circular track running around the circumference of the wheel. The ball eventually loses momentum and falls onto the wheel and into one of 37 in French/European roulette or 38 in American roulette colored and numbered pockets on the wheel.

The roulette table usually includes the betting layout and the wheel, as the latter is located at one end of the table. In some cases, in Europe, the table has a double-ended layout, while the roulette wheel is situated in the center. A dealer, known as a croupier in France, oversees each of the layouts. In case too many people gather around the table, a second dealer can be seen. He/she is called a check racker or a mucker and assists in stacking of the roulette chips. In some casinos there may be no human check rackers, as a number of newer casinos have introduced automatic check racking machines.

In Europe, the rotating wheelhead is put to rest during the time, when the winning bets are being paid. Afterwards it is forced in the opposite direction for the next ball spin. In the United States the ball is spun in a clockwise manner, while the wheel head is rotating in a counter clock wise direction.

It all started in 18th century in France when Pascal devised the first form of roulette but its current form is from 1796 onwards, there are two types of wheel in the game of roulette, single zero wheel and double zero wheel, initially it was double zero wheel but in 1843, in Germany some modifications are made in it but till that time it was a popular game in America with the double zero wheel. So single zero is then only associated with the European roulette and double zero with American, Monte Carlo became the den for lovers of roulette in Europe and Las Vegas for Americans.

There is a legend in the game of roulette, “the king of casino games”, it is said that François blanc has bargained the devil to get the secret formula of the game, as if you sum up all the numbers i.e. 1-37 they will be equal to 666, number know as the “number of beast”. Due to some cheating cases in USA the spinner of the game was placed on the top of the desk so that no one could do any trick under the table, but the European game remains the same. The USA roulette is said to be more clear and quick in the matters of cash.

There are many Roulette variations that you can enjoy now apart from the traditional classic games. Most popular are the American, French and European Roulette

American Roulette

In American Roulette the wheel has a 00 pocket in addition to a 0 pocket, which has the effect of increasing the house’s advantage as there are simply more spots on the wheel from which the player must choose. When playing American roulette, the odds of winning are 1 to 38.

In addition to the 00 spot, the American roulette wheel the numbers are placed in logical and sequential order. You will see the difference when you compare this with European roulette wheels where the assign number placements are at random, American wheels position sequential numbers opposite from one another: For example, 9 is placed across the wheel from 10.

European Roulette

As roulette originated in France, the European version of the game is the most authentic version one can play. The numbers on the European roulette wheel range from 0 to 36 (excluding the 00 found on American wheels), so you have a slightly higher advantage playing European roulette than when playing the American variety. When playing European roulette, the odds of winning are 1 to 37.

Ehile the odds of winning increase when playing European roulette, the stakes decrease significantly. The house edge in European roulette amounts to 2.7 percent (in the American variety, the figure is 5.27 percent). This results in smaller losses should you lose while playing European roulette.

In European roulette, you have the option to pay the croupier or the person who spins the roulette wheel to start the ball from a particular spot on the wheel. Additionally, culturally ingrained formalities are acceptable in European roulette, such as the “la partage” rule. This rule states that after a spin of 0, a player is allowed to leave his or her bet “in prison” – that is, on the same spot on which he or she had originally betted before spinning a 0 – in an attempt to try to recover the loss.

French Roulette

French roulette is a variation of the game of roulette, which gained popularity in the years following the French Revolution. Played quite frequently at casinos in Monte Carlo, French roulette is a bit different than the other roulette variations because it features a unique table layout. In addition, in this casino table game players are faced with the lowest house advantage of any other roulette variation, as due to one additional game play rule, the edge is reduced to 1.35%.

The game is played on the standard European wheel, which has 37 divisions, where numbers from 1 to 36 and 0 can be found. Numbers from 1 to 36 are alternately colored in red and black, while the single zero is marked in green.

If you compare the French and the American roulette variations, you will note that the American roulette table shows both a single zero, and a double zero, while the French table shows only a single zero. What is more, all the numbers on the French table are white in color, while all numbers, excluding the zero and the double zero on the American roulette table are colored either in red or in black.

Another distinction between the two variations is that the numbers on the French and the American roulette wheels are located in a different manner.

Also the position of the outside betting field on the American and the French roulette tables differs. The outside bets on the American variation are usually placed on the left side of the table layout. The outside betting field on the French variation is split in two and located along both sides of the table layout. Each one of the outside bets has its French moniker visualized on the table, while, at times, its translation in English is also visualized right below the French name.

Rapid Roulette

Rapid roulette is a version of the game which typically combines the benefits of a live dealer with touch-screen betting prompts and has gained popularity in casinos in recent years. You can find this game play at Crown Casino to enjoy. Because of the amount of time saved with virtual betting, you can place up to 65 bets per hour. Many players find this option attractive because at first glance, it appears that there are more opportunities to win. However, a player’s odds of winning are actually the same each time he or she plays, regardless of how many times a bet is individually cast.

In the first quarter of 20th century this “king of casino games” was only available to the lucky ones who could afford to go to either Monte Carlo for European style or to Las Vegas for American but in 1970’s casinos were flourishing all over the world and now the double zero wheel is available in USA, Caribbean and south Africa and the rest of the casinos are spinning the single zero wheel.
